CRDA Board Approves Funding for Additional Entertainment and Enhancements throughout Atlantic City Tourism District

CRDA Board Approves Funding for Additional Entertainment and Enhancements throughout Atlantic City Tourism District

Special Events, Lighting and Beautification Projects Included

(Atlantic City, NJ, August 19, 2014) – Continuing their program designed to provide more entertainment options and a fresh, comfortable environment for visitors and residents, the Board of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) today approved several funding measures.  “CRDA and our marketing and business partners are committed to ensuring that Atlantic City has a bright future as we guide its evolution to an entertainment-based resort destination,” said CRDA Board Chairman James Kehoe.

The success of the summer’s expansive schedule of free concerts and Movies Under the Stars prompted a $75,000 supplemental fund reservation for events to be held through the balance of the 2014.  Likewise, the Board approved a program grant of $25,000 to DelMo Sports, Inc., for production of the 2014 Atlantic City Triathlon, which is expected to draw more than 1,000 athletes for a variety of running, swimming and paddling events on September 14.

A $33,209 supplemental fund reservation was also approved to address additional manpower, material and security costs for Tony Mart Productions, LLC, producer of nine summer concerts on the beach and Boardwalk.

CRDA also approved a supplemental fund reservation of $83,000 for the conversion of street lights from Pacific Avenue to the bay along Bellevue, Texas, Florida and Georgia avenues.  This expands the project that originally was only along Pacific Avenue and cross streets to the Boardwalk.

The ramp on Montpelier Avenue leading to the Boardwalk will be rebuilt and expanded to provide additional open space at the street end.  CRDA awarded a bid to L. Feriozzi Concrete Company, Inc., in the amount of $130,400 to complete the project.

The Board also approved a resolution to expand the Atlantic Avenue Fa├žade Program to the entire Atlantic City Tourism District.  The next step is to design criteria to determine which areas of the Tourism District qualify for new facades.

Additionally, the Board approved a $19,800 intergovernmental grant requested by the City of Atlantic City for a study to research the best practices in taxi codes and recommend updates to the current codes.

According to John Palmieri, executive director of the CRDA, “The actions taken today are another step in keeping Atlantic City relevant for visitors.”

Here Come the Revel I Told You So's and Monday Morning Quarterbacks

Hey kids it's that time again for the Monday morning quarterbacks on why Revel is closing.

I'm already getting hit with, "Didn't I tell you it would never work before it was ever built syndrome from some" personally and the newspaper will be filled with them.

Sure everyone embraced the thought of a multi-billion dollar project with two towers and amenities never before seen in Atlantic City. It was going to be the savior of Atlantic City maybe the entire country, ok I've gone to far.

My excitement started when I was there for the ground breaking, with video camera in hand, there were goose bumps going up and down my body this was awesome.

I would drive or walk uptown frequently to check on Revel's progress and before long it began to take shape.

The plans and drawings planned for two towers as we see only one was built.

As things progressed on the outside the media was kept from the inside no one was privy to the secrets held within the glass structure until the big media day.

There was promotion prior and talk of amenities, what they had and didn't not have for players and patrons leaked out slowly.

Part of the excitement was Ovation Hall entertainment showroom 5000+ capacity for concerts, sports and production shows.

We heard of the dining. names you must know if you're from Baltimore/DC, Philly, New York.

For total relaxation not just a spa but a 32,000 square foot spa.

Then there was the nightlife and daylife,  an agreement with Angel Management group to open HQ nightclub and day-club. We were told four floors and saw the plans only two ever materialized.

As a member of the media I was taken to NY with 6 others where the chefs from the different restaurants offered a tasting and it was spectacular.

I was there for the media opening took the tour and met the interior designers, staff and many more.

So what happened?

For me to comment as someone who has all the answers would be wrong at this point, So, I won't comment from a professional in the luxury travel industry and has been around the world.

However I will comment, as a resident who is a slot player.

My wife Susan plays more than I do but we look for the same things our favorite machines and new ones we has never seen, Revel has all that.

Prior to opening Revel told the public more of what they didn't have than what they had or at least that's the way it seemed to us but more Susan I was receiving press releases.

Players Club, NO, Buffet, NO Comps, NO for her that was it, she went back back to the Tropicana and Atlantic Club for us convenience gaming since that's our neighborhood and there was nothing to keep us, Atlantic Club has great new machines.

We've stayed there, rooms great but we never were able to grasp no floors everything was judged by sea-level.

They also had no smoking, we're not smokers but it was another no. So for us it was like hearing the Human Beinz song Nobody But Me that starts out with No, No ,No,  No...Etc

And she did not go back until comps were offered but she never embraced it and now plays at Trump Taj Mahal and Tropicana. I went back from time to time. And that's from a slot players perceptive.

Here are some of the amenities I enjoy at Revel

The tacos at Distrito and other Garces restaurants that I was already very familiar with from Philly. I thought the Burger at Mussel Bar was one of the best I have ever had.

For me HQ is exciting seeing Calvin Harris, Tiesto and other EDM superstars.

Ovation Hall for concerts is amazing.

This is not a eulogy but hopes the incredible structure that occupies Revel Blvd will be purchased by a group that will nurture it like they just bought the car of their dreams and they sit it in their backyard listening to the mega sound system, playing with the bells and whistles.
